Bette Midler is joining the voice cast of the new film Steps.
Netflix announced Monday that the Beaches and Hocus Pocus actress, 80, will voice Fairy Godmother in the upcoming movie.
Steps is an animated reimagining of the Cinderella story that was previously brought to life as both animated and live-action films by Disney.
The new movie hails from Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, with Ali Wong, Stephanie Hsu and Amanda Seyfried to also star. Seyfried voices Cinderella, while Wong and Hsu voice her stepsisters, Lilith and Margot.
Midler told Netflix’s Tudum that her version of the Fairy Godmother will put a new spin on the character.
“The beloved Fairy Godmother, the wholesome Fairy Godmother — the one with all the good intentions — has been around for a long, long time. This particular version of the Fairy Godmother has good intentions, but she’s a little bit of a bumbler, and she’s a little bit of a schemer,” the actress said. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this film! And I’m thrilled to be with this cast.”
