Cinverse announced Thursday that Guillermo del Toro’s 2006 film Pan’s Labyrinth will return to theaters on Oct. 9. Fathom Entertainment will distribute the 20th anniversary re-release.

Del Toro oversaw new 4K high dynamic range and 3D versions of the film. Both 3D and 2D versions will be presented in HDR.

Pan’s Labyrinth starred Ivana Baquero as Ofelia, a young girl who escapes into her fantasy world in post-Spanish Civil War 1944. Doug Jones played several of the creatures she encounters, including the Faun of the film’s Spanish-language title, El Labertino del Fauno.

Sergi López plays the evil captain who marries Ofelia’s mother (Ariadna Gil). Maribel Verdú played the captain’s housekeeper who is secretly a revolutionary.

The film won Oscars for cinematography, art direction and makeup and was nominated for original screenplay, score and Foreign Language Film. Del Toro would win Oscars for directing and Best Picture for The Shape of Water.
