November watch list: Films arriving in theaters, on streaming

From Wicked: For Good to Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, November will see highly-anticipated films arriving in theaters and on streaming services.

Documentary lovers will also have their share of viewing options this month, with features like Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth and Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks available to watch at home.

Movies arriving in theaters

Predator: Badlands

Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi star in the film, which takes place in the Predator universe.

“A young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary,” a synopsis reads.

The film arrives Nov. 7.

Die My Love

Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson star in Lynne Ramsay’s film about a writer’s descent into madness.

Lawrence plays the writer and new mother, with Pattinson as her husband. The pair appear to be a happy couple on the surface, but that illusion is stripped away as Lawrence’s character loses touch with reality.

The cast also includes LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte and Sissy Spacek, and arrives in theaters Nov. 7.

Train Dreams

Train Dreams, which takes its inspiration from the Denis Johnson novella, stars Joel Edgerton as a logger grappling with the fact that his job keeps him away from his family.

“When his life takes an unexpected turn, Robert (Edgerton) finds beauty, brutality and newfound meaning for the forests and trees he’s felled,” an official synopsis reads.

Felicity Jones, Kerry Condon, William H. Macy, Nathaniel Arcand and Alfred Hsing also star.

The Carpenter’s Son

Noah Jupe portrays the Biblical figure Jesus as he is “targeted by supernatural forces” in the film arriving Nov. 14.

Isla Johnston portrays the devil who is pursuing him, while Nicolas Cage and FKA twigs star as Joseph and Mary, respectively.

“Violent, unnatural events inexplicably follow Jesus, and he begins to experience nightmarish visions of the future,” an official synopsis says.

The Running Man

This upcoming remake of the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is also based on the Stephen King novel.

The new version stars Glenn Powell as Ben Richards, a man who enters a life-and-death game that is broadcast on television and could potentially win him the money he needs to care for his family.

“As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall,” an official synopsis reads.

Cast members also include William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin.

The Running Man arrives in theaters Nov. 14.

Wicked: For Good

Ariana Grande becomes “Glinda the Good” and Cynthia Erivo is declared “The Wicked Witch of the West” in the sequel to the 2024 film Wicked.

The new film sees Elphaba (Erivo) hide out in the forest as she attempts to obtain freedom for the region’s animals, an official synopsis reads.

Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode also star in the film, which will premiere in theaters Nov. 21.

The movies take their inspiration from Gregory Maguire’s novel and the following Broadway adaptation.

Movies arriving on streaming

Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic novel arrives on Netflix Nov. 7.

The film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as his creature.

Other cast members include Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz.

“I demand a single grace from you,” Frankenstein’s creation says in a trailer. “If you are not to award me love, then I will indulge in rage.”

Fantastic Four: First Steps

The film, which arrived in theaters in July, marks the third iteration of movies inspired by the Marvel Comics superheroes.

Vanessa Kirby and Pedro Pascal portray Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic, while Julia Garner is the Silver Surfer and the Human Torch is played by Joseph Quinn. The Thing is played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

The movie topped the domestic box office following its theatrical release and arrives on Disney+ Nov. 5.

Freakier Friday

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunite in the sequel to the 2003 film Freaky Friday, arriving on Disney+ Nov. 12.

Curtis and Lohan portray Tess and Anna, respectively, in Freakier Friday, which shows the mother-daughter duo navigating life some 20-odd years after the events of the first film.

“When Anna meets Eric (Manny Jacinto), a single dad to 15-year-old fashionista Lily (Sophia Hammons), it’s love at first sight,” an official synopsis reads. “But as they navigate the challenges that inevitably arise when two families merge, Anna and Tess soon learn that lightning can, in fact, strike twice.”

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Julia Butters also star.

Playdate

The action comedy stars Kevin James and Alan Ritchson as two men who bond over fatherhood and their adventure outrunning various killers.

A playdate becomes a dangerous situation when Brian (James) learns that Jeff (Ritchson) actually kidnapped his so-called son, and is being hunted by mercenaries.

Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, Hiro Kanagawa, Stephen Root and Isla Fisher also star in the film, which debuts on Prime Video Nov. 12.

Champagne Problems

Minka Kelly’s Parisian love interest distracts from a business opportunity in Paris in the romantic comedy Champagne Problems.

Kelly’s character is set on purchasing a vineyard, but the founder’s son turns out to be her crush, complicating the sale.

The film, which arrives on Netflix Nov. 19, also stars Tom Wozniczka, Thibault de Montalembert, Sean Amsing, Flula Bord, Astrid Whettnall and Maeve Courtier-Lilley.

Documentaries arriving on streaming

Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth

The late Love Island UK host Caroline Flack is the subject of Search for the Truth, which arrives on Hulu Nov. 10.

In the two-part series, Flack’s mother, Christine, investigates what led to her daughter’s 2020 suicide.

Flack was accused in 2019 of assaulting her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.

“I wish I’d done it then, before she took her own life,” said Christine Flack of her investigation efforts. “And that’s my biggest regret, that I wasn’t shouting like this then, but now I’ve got nothing to lose. The worst thing in the world happened with losing Carrie.”

Being Eddie

This documentary, which arrives on Netflix Nov. 12, features iconic actor and comedian Eddie Murphy reflecting on his career, as well as input from Arsenio Hall, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Pete Davidson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Tracy Morgan.

Angus Wall directs.

“There is no one else like him. Nobody. He’s been famous longer than just about anyone alive, and he’s never lost who he is. He has survived it all with grace,” Wall said.

Selena y Los Dinos: A Family Legacy

Late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla is the subject of a new documentary arriving on Netflix Nov. 17.

The feature will include commentary from her family, as well as footage from her early time with the band, which included siblings Suzette Quintanilla and AB Quintanilla III.

The music artist was killed in 1995. She was 23.

The documentary took home the Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling.

Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks

This three-part series offers viewers a glimpse into the making of Universal Orlando Resort’s Universal Epic Universe, which opened earlier this year.

Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Jon M. Chu, Bryce Dallas Howard, Michelle Yeoh and Vin Diesel offer commentary about their connection to the new theme park.

Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks is set to arrive on Peacock Nov. 17.

Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi bring ‘Frankenstein’ to BFI London Film Festival
