Lionsgate has announced a 2027 release date for its Blair Witch Project remake.

The studio shared a video Tuesday featuring footage of a misty forest. The Blair Witch stick figure and the numbers “9,” “24” and “27” are spelled out using sticks and hang from the trees.

Variety confirmed the new Blair Witch will open in theaters Sept. 24, 2027. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson previously described the film as a “new vision” that will “reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.”

The original Blair Witch Project opened in 1999 and was a seminal film of the found footage genre. Directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, the movie follows three students (Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, Joshua Leonard) as they investigate the myth of the “Blair Witch” in the woods of the Appalachian Mountains.

Released before widespread Internet use and social media, the Blair Witch Project sparked interest with its marketing and found footage-style story, which led many viewers to question whether the events were real.

Myrick, Sánchez, Williams, Hale and original producer Gregg Hale will return to serve as executive producers on the remake.
